SET-listed retail and property developer Central Pattana Plc (CPN) is to invest 1.2 billion baht in the shopping mall Central Rama 2 to give it a new look and transform it into an urban landscape.

Nattakit Tangpoonsinthana, executive vice-president for marketing at CPN, said the transformation of Central Rama 2 was based on the company’s strategy of building a “landmark destination” in every corner of each major city.

The company said the makeover of Central Rama 2 would let the south Bangkok mall meet the needs and lifestyles of all generations.

“We have expanded our catchment areas to meet the needs of Rama 2 residents of every generation, creating great first impressions for customers from the first moment they enter the shopping centre,” said Mr Nattakit.

He pointed out that Central Rama 2 has elevated local residents’ quality of life and connected green areas with the shopping centre.

The mall will introduce new zones for restaurants under the concept of “The infinite taste” and “Tree chamber”, featuring 300 popular restaurants including world-renowned restaurants and cafes, ranging from street food-style eateries to Michelin-starred restaurants from the ground floor to the fourth floor.

Mr Nattakit added that this renovation would let the mall attract more than 30% of the wealthy segment. He said that customer traffic at Central Rama 2 has returned to almost 100% of pre-pandemic levels.

“Central Rama 2 also prioritises environmental stewardship by becoming the first shopping centre in Thailand to use the innovative zero-carbon transportation hub in south Bangkok,” Mr Nattakit said.

“We also aim to become the only zero-waste mall in the area, with a recycling station that reflects our two corporate values to be the first mixed-use developer to achieve net zero by 2050.

“The two values are positivity, by spurring creativity and doing good deeds for a better quality of life for everyone, and community at heart by taking care of the community and the environment to ensure that we share sustainable growth.”

The upgraded mall is to be led by Tops Club, Thailand’s first membership-driven supermarket, which sells food and consumer goods from around the world.

In addition, the revamp will also cover the Central department store, Central Food Hall, SuperSports, Power Buy x B2S, OfficeMate, and Auto1.
